Lowell Whitty

Lowell has been an active musician in Toronto’s vibrant jazz scene for many years. His infectiously energetic approach to the drums has kept him in demand on sessions and performances all over the world.
As a member of The Heavyweights Brass Band he brings the vibes and tradition of Crescent City drumming to the stage. Laying down second line grooves, Afrocuban influences and Rocknroll is all part of what keeps the band swinging.
When Lowell isn’t bringing swampy grooves to the Heavyweights, he can be heard at The Soupepper Theater Company as the resident drummer accompanying a variety of theatre productions and concerts. His recording credits include many notable artists such as David Clayton Thomas, Jane Bunnett, Jackie Richardson, percussionist Giovani Hidalgo, Albert Shultz, Kevin Breit, Saidah Baba Talibah, Patricia O’Callahan, Suba Sankaran, Walleed Abdul Hammid, Kevin Quain, and jazz pianist Robi Botos.

Lowell plays the Headhunters’ MG C model.
