Dan Bodanis

Dan Bodanis is a professional drummer that has played Headhunters Drumsticks since 1975! Dan has performed with some of the best musicians on the planet including: Don Ellis, Daniel Lanois, KC and the Sunshine Band, Lee Konitz, Reg Schwager, Don Thompson, David Restivo, Adrean Farrugia, Pat Collins, Gregg Arthur, Moe Koffman, Eugene Amaro, Bernie Senensky, Steve Wallace, Nancy Walker, Brian Dickenson, David Braid, George Olliver and Gangbuster, Grant Smith and the Power, Eugene Wright (Dave Brubeck), Pat LaBarbara, Mitch Forman, Gary Meek, Dave Weckl, and legendary vibraphonist Peter Appleyard. He has played drums on well over a hundred jingles and was the drummer on CTV’s “Live It Up” for several years at Grant Avenue Studio. The Dan Bodanis Band Trio, featuring Steve Wallace (b) and Bernie Senensky (p), has been performing between 220-240 nights per year since 2009. Their residency as the house band at the Intercontinental Hotel, in the Azure Restaurant and Lounge, is now a matter for the record books, as it is considered by the Toronto Musicians Association, “The longest running Pro-Jazz gig in Canadian history!” During this period, the Dan Bodanis Band Trio had the distinct privilege of being the “Official Jazz Band of the G-20 Summit;” has performed with Academy Award winning Screen Icon, Olympia Dukakis, Gregg Arthur (Tony Bennett’s favorite singer), KC and the Sunshine Band, and several more legends. Dan has also played for Miss Universe and for 9 years in a row, has performed and booked the bands at the Rogers Cup International Tennis Tournament. Dan is the type of Renaissance man that you rarely meet, but when you do, you come away inspired to live your life to the fullest. His students will tell you that he was the most demanding teacher they have ever studied with, but look who they have gone on to perform with: Ringo Star, The Backstreet Boys, Quincy Jones, David Foster, Ray Charles, Alannah Myles, Carole Pope, Long John Baldry, Mick Jagger, Jessica Simpson, Kim Mitchell, Five for Fighting, Kelly Clarkson, Wayne Newton, The Rheostatics and The Toronto Symphony Orchestra. Dan’s students have also performed on the following major TV shows: Jay Leno, David Letterman, Regis & Kelly, A&E Private Sessions, Larry King, CBS Early Show, The View, and Martha Stewart. Dan has also inspired former students like Jeff Salem and Marc Atkinson to create award winning drum instruction books and videos. As a matter of fact, Modern Drummer magazine voted Atkinson’s book “The Unreel Drumbook,” the ‘Best Drumbook of 2004!’ Atkinson was so inspired throughout the process of writing the book he dedicated it to Bodanis and also asked him to write the introduction. August of 2005, Dan was selected as the Marquis Endorsee for the first DC California Signature Drum Kit.
